At the end of 2016, Flensby & Partners, together with our Nordic client, successfully completed a Search process for their expansion of a key sector in the Swedish market.
The client is a financial advisor and substantial Nordic player within investment banking with the ambition to take a strong leading position within one of their key sectors. During the autumn of 2016, Flensby & Partners became engaged in the Search process for a number of senior professionals.
A Flensby & Partners team was established, and the client’s needs were made explicit to us. During the process, the client’s preferences regarding the various roles matured and altered, and the Search was adjusted and changed in line with these requirements. It was key for the client, as well as for the professionals, to complement each other. In close collaboration with the client, and almost on a daily basis, the opportunity to attract several high calibre candidates evolved.
Piece by piece, the assignment to recruit the expanding organisation developed, and during the very last days in 2016, it was finalized. Four senior professionals were identified, processed and ultimately they signed with the client. In early 2017, the client officially announced the Swedish expansion, together with the names of the senior members to be in place.
Key takeaways for Flensby & Partners are firstly that when executing a Search for a full team at senior level in a competitive market it is fundamentally crucial that there is a firm commitment from both the client and the consultant to be able to manage the process successfully. To be able to attract the best candidates it is also important to agree with the client on the commitment to meet market expectations at the early stage in the process. The key is to manage sound expectations with resources available for the candidates to both be perceived as a committed employer and a market oriented institution. During the process, it is equally important to have a high level of communication between the client and the consultant to pick up and transfer market intelligence to the client, but also to respond to any questions in the market.
